The Best of Jim Carrey’s Movies
November 23rd, 2009 by Carl Savage
Jim Carrey has been one of the most prominent comedy actors of this generation. With millions of fans around the world, his movies often sit atop the box office right after they’re released. During the course of the last 15 years, Carrey has starred in a host of movies, delivering endless laughs to his audiences.
Everyone may have a differing opinion when asked about the best movie that Carrey has acted in. He’s had so many mega hits during the past two decades that limiting it to just one might be very hard to do.
Many people will say that Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, the movie that really put him on the big stage, is Carrey’s best work. Others prefer his follow up, The Mask, which also introduced longtime movie star Cameron Diaz.
These both made Carrey a household name, thanks to his outrageous antics and bold sense of humor. He quickly became the hottest comedy actor in the nation, riding the success of those releases.
While Ace Ventura and The Mask were both great movies, a large number of people believe that Dumb and Dumber was even better. The cross country voyage of Carrey and Jeff Daniels provided some of the best movie moments of the’90s, and this movie is still regularly broadcast on television.
Moving forward, there were movies like Me, Myself and Irene, not to mention The Cable Guy, a movie that seems to polarize its viewers. Believe it or not, there are many who believe that The Cable Guy was Carrey’s most inventive performance and his best work.
After a number of comedic successes, Carrey decided to spend some time on more serious roles. His starring roles in movies like The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind both won critical praise, and showed the world that Carrey is a talented actor on many levels.
As you can see, this is a debate that may be really hard to settle. With so many great choices, it all boils down to personal tastes at the end of the day.
